Abstract

In this chalk talk, I will discuss recent studies from my laboratory showing that under suitable culture conditions human pluripotent stem cells can undergo intricate morphogenetic events and self-organize to form patterned human embryo-like structures in vitro. I will present the current status of the emerging field of synthetic human embryology and discuss future opportunities of this field to study human pluripotency, embryonic lineage development and patterning, chimerism, implantation, and placentation.
